Barry Paine specializes in still life, interiors and landscapes (Somerset and Spain), painting in oils. After studying life drawing at Bristol School of Art, Barry Paine spent several months painting in Spain; he now lives in Chew Stoke, near Chew Valley Lake. Barry has been a professional artist since 1978 and has held very successful annual solo exhibitions. In 1985 he opened Fairseat Studio which has been a very popular centre for students of all abilities. Since 1980, Barry has exhibited in numerous exhibitions and galleries including the Bath Society of Artists and the Royal West of England Academy, Bristol, where he has won prizes for his paintings in 1997 and 1998. Barry describes his paintings as `an emotional response to a subject seen or remembered, simplified to the essentials from notes in his sketch book.`
